Children’s Right to Development

The first conference on Children’s Right to Development was held in 2022 at Uppsala University, and the theme became one of the university’s prioritized research challenges.

Since 2024, the Faculty of Educational Sciences has organized annual conferences where researchers at Uppsala University present ongoing studies about, with, and for children and young people.

In 2025, the faculty’s honorary doctor Susan Danby, Distinguished Professor at Queensland University of Technology and Scientific Director of the Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child Digital child, delivered a highly appreciated keynote lecture on childhood in a digitalized world and experiences of conducting interdisciplinary research.

Conferences and workshops in collaboration with CIRCUS

The faculty continues to invest in recurring annual activities on the theme Children’s Right to Development, in collaboration with Centre for Integrated Research on Culture and Society (CIRCUS). The format and content will vary. Every other year, a major conference is held with researchers and collaboration partners, featuring presentations of ongoing research (oral presentations and posters) and joint discussions. In alternating years, creative workshops are arranged with researchers from different disciplines actively participate, for example through case studies addressing shared themes (such as methods for cross-disciplinary collaboration, specific subject focuses, or current challenges).

The aim is to disseminate knowledge about ongoing research and to create a meeting place for new collaborations—both within the university and in partnership with organizations working with children and young people.
