The aim of the project is to analyse treatment dilemmas experienced by Swedish dietitians when prescribing oral nutritional supplements to patients and, in collaboration with Umeå University, to conduct a comprehensive systematic literature review on barriers and facilitating factors affecting adherence to nutritional treatment with oral nutritional supplements
Description
Oral nutritional supplements (such as nutritional drinks) are commonly used as part of the nutritional treatment of disease-related malnutrition. In Sweden, it is mainly dietitians who prescribe oral nutritional supplements, which are subsidised in each region.
The overall purpose of the dissertation "Oral nutritional supplements within the nutritions therapy - prescription and adherence from a dietetic practice perspective" published at the department in 2021 was to increase knowledge and deepen the understanding of the prescription of oral nutritional supplements and adherence to this treatment.
The work with the thesis has raised more questions about this area and at present, work is ongoing to analyse the treatment dilemmas that Swedish dietitians experience when prescribing oral nutritional supplements to patients.
In addition, we are collaborating with Umeå University in a comprehensive systematic literature review on barriers and facilitating factors that affect adherence to nutritional treatment with oral nutritional supplements
