On March 17, historian Ale Pålsson was promoted to docent in history at Uppsala University.

His research since his thesis defense in 2016 at Stockholm University, with his thesis Our Side of the Water: Political Culture in the Swedish Colony of St Barthélemy 1800–1825, has mainly concerned the social and political history of the Swedish Caribbean colony.

One area of particular interest has been free women of colour and their social status under Swedish rule. Additionally, he was worked with digitalisation of colonial archives, examined modern perceptions of the history of slavery and colonialisn, and has recently begun work on Swedish business history in Latin America.
