Master's programmes
The Department of History offers advanced-level education through three distinct Master’s programmes. Each programme includes a broad selection of courses exploring a variety of historical themes and equips you with strong analytical tools for understanding historical processes and phenomena. A Master’s degree in History is a valuable qualification for careers in fields such as policy analysis, journalism, and the cultural sector. It also provides eligibility for doctoral studies in history or related disciplines.
Our programmes
The Master's Programme in Early Modern History will increase your appreciation and understanding of the late Medieval and Early Modern world (roughly 1350–1850) and give you the theoretical and research skills needed to conduct independent historical research. In this period there is much that seems strange and repulsive to us. At the same time, this is when many developments that helped form the basis of modern society started to emerge.
The Master's Programme in Modern History is committed to the belief that a greater appreciation and understanding of European history is critical for understanding today's social and political problems. You will gain a broad familiarity with some of the main political, social, economic and cultural processes characteristic of the past 100–200 years. We offer a broad understanding of modern times with a strong emphasis on research skills.
Have you wondered what social factors incite instances of genocide and other forms of mass violence? Holocaust and Genocide Studies is a dynamic field of research and education of the highest international relevance. The Master's Programme in Holocaust and Genocide Studies will give you the ability to independently understand and analyse the phenomenon of genocide and other forms of mass violence in their historical and cultural contexts.
