Interview with Chiara Arghittu

Organisation!!! I would also say rhetorics, in the sense of organising discourse and thoughts. Self-discipline has also benefited me a lot, as most of the second year is spent on your own, and it has translated very well into my daily life.

- Chiara Arghittu on skills she developed during her master's studies.

Globala möten

What are you currently working on/with?

I am currently employed in a French bookshop in Denmark, though I am looking for teaching spots. I've taken some extra courses elsewhere
to be able to teach French as a foreign language. In Denmark, you have to be able to teach two subjects as a high school teacher. In my case, it's history and French.

How do you look back on your time as a student? What do you miss, and what do you not miss?

I'm nostalgic! It was a nice time in many ways (not the -18ºC though!). I miss the intellectual stimulation and emulation we got from working together on our theses in what was the Master's Room, and the great friends I made. But what I miss most is the ambiance in Nations to be honest!

How has your education influenced your professional life?

Well, it allows me to be a teacher, which is great considering that's what I want! As an international student who ended up moving out of Sweden, I can't say that I benefited from much network however.

Which skills, both on a professional and everyday level, that you developed during your studies do you value the most today?

Organisation!!! I would also say rhetorics, in the sense of organising discourse and thoughts. Self-discipline has also benefited me a lot, as most of the second year is spent on your own, and it has translated very well into my daily life.

If you were to give current master's students one practical piece of advice, what would it be?

It cannot wait until tomorrow, do it now!!!

Favorite place in Uppsala?

Tough one... I remember many beautiful tours in Hågadalen, but
in the city centre, I'd say the Castle and Styrbiskop for its history.

Which student tradition do you miss the most?

Everything Nation-related, especially the gasques!

One thing you should not miss out on during your time as a student in Uppsala?

Taking in as much sunlight as you can in the summer!
