Interview with Frozan Shafigh Noubary

Why did you choose to study this course/programme?

I chose to study the subject teacher programme because I want to make a difference in people's lives. My ambition is to create an inspiring and safe environment where students can feel seen, heard and appreciated. I want to help students discover that school is a place full of opportunities, where they not only learn about subjects but also grow as individuals. For me, teaching is about guiding, motivating and building a foundation for future dreams and successes.

What got you interested in history?

What sparked my interest in history is the opportunity to look back and understand how people lived in the past. For me, history is like a mirror to the past, revealing not only our progress but also our recurring mistakes. It is precisely this repetitive pattern that makes history so important; it teaches us to reflect, learn from the past and hopefully avoid repeating the same mistakes. I see history as a guide, a tool for better understanding our present and shaping a wiser future.

What do you think has been the most fun and interesting part of the programme so far?

What I found most interesting about the programme was the insight into how much history there is beyond what is usually taught. I was fascinated to discover the hidden stories and aspects of history that, for various reasons, have been discarded or forgotten over time.

What do you feel has been the most challenging aspect of the programme so far?

What I found challenging during the programme was taking in such a large amount of content in such a short period of time. Although it has been incredibly rewarding, I can't help thinking that the programme could have benefited from more semesters. Another challenge has been navigating an environment where history is not only studied by future teachers, but also by other students with completely different career goals. This has sometimes meant that the focus of the teaching has shifted, and that not all of the material feels equally relevant to us who are going to be teachers.

How have you found your first few months as a history student?

My first few months as a history student has been incredibly rewarding. Meeting dedicated and incredibly competent teachers has not only deepened my interest in the subject, but also challenged me to think critically and develop academically and personally. In addition, I have had the opportunity to get to know fantastic fellow students who not only share the same passion for history, but who have also become friends for life.

What are your goals for your studies?

My goal is to achieve my dream of becoming a fully certified and qualified secondary school teacher. I look forward to having the opportunity to inspire the next generation of students, share my knowledge and contribute to their development both inside and outside the classroom.

Beyond your studies: what do you enjoy doing in Uppsala?

In addition to my studies, I like to take a walk through town or sit down at a cosy café with friends. It's a nice way to unwind and just enjoy each other's company.

  • My favourite place in Uppsala right now is definitely the café Årummet. Perfect pastries and a fantastic atmosphere.
• Where is the best place to study?
  • Definitely Ångström. Large halls and plenty of seating make it the perfect place to study
• What will you be doing in five years?
  • In five years, I hope to have made some progress in my career as a secondary school teacher, to feel confident and comfortable in my profession, and to truly love what I do.
