Anna Dimberg is a professor of cancer and vascular biology, and her research focuses on understanding how blood vessels control the development of brain tumours. Her research group combines studies of human tumours with experimental cancer models and cell culture models. Among other things, she has characterised several proteins found in blood vessels in the brain tumour type glioblastoma. The goal is to develop new forms of treatment for glioblastoma, with the aim to optimise blood vessel function and improve the response to cancer therapy.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has 480 Swedish and 175 foreign members, divided into 10 classes. Since before, IGP professors Christer Betsholtz, Lena Claesson-Welsh and Bengt Westermark are members of the class for medical sciences, and Ulf Landegren and Taija Mäkinen are members of the class for biological sciences.
