SSMF Consolidator Grant to Yumeng Mao

The Swedish Society for Medical Research, SSMF, has awarded Yumeng Mao a five-year Consolidator Grant to study why solid cancers become resistant to immunotherapy.

In the project supported by SSMF, Yumeng Mao will combine functional genomics, models that track how cancer cells evolve under treatment, and spatial analysis of patient tumours to find new ways to overcome this resistance. The ultimate goal is to identify and validate actionable therapeutic targets to sensitize cancer cells with mutations that make them resistant to immunotherapy.

The project will be executed in close collaboration with researchers at IGP and at Karolinska Institutet.

“I am very pleased to receive this grant and truly grateful for the support from SSMF. It will give us the resources to carry out mechanistic studies that address a major unsolved challenge in cancer immunotherapy,” says Yumeng Mao.

Facts

The purpose of SSMF Consolidator Grant is to give prominent researchers in medicine the opportunity to strengthen their position as independent researchers. The grants are open for researchers who were awarded their doctoral degree more than seven but less than twelve years ago. This year, the grant amounts to SEK 11,000,000 for five years.
