Exploring correlates of gender dysphoria

Overview: In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in the number of individuals experiencing gender dysphoria. However, the current scientific evidence on gender dysphoria remains limited, necessitating high-quality studies with larger sample sizes. The overall aim of this project is to better understand the factors associated with gender dysphoria by exploring its biological, psychological, and socio-cultural aspects. More specifically, we investigate the associations between prenatal exposure to endocrine disruptors and gender-specific behavior, as well as the relationships between neurodevelopmental traits, gender-specific behavior, and gender dysphoria. This research involves analyzing data from two ongoing, complementary cohorts: SELMA, a population-based mother-child cohort, and SKDS, a clinical cohort that includes individuals experiencing gender dysphoria and matched controls. By identifying links related to gender dysphoria, this project aims to contribute to improved support for those experiencing it.
