Welcome to the Shibboleth performance — A Small Piece of Eternity —collage of music and text by Julia Romanowska, freely inspired by the diaries of Etty Hillesum.

Etty Hillesum, who did not survive but was murdered in Auschwitz at the age of twenty-nine, writes in her diaries what may be the only prescription capable of saving us today. She insists on the testimony of the senses — on the truth that light is as real as darkness: the world was created beautiful and richly diverse. To see this is not the same as to avert one’s gaze. There are truths and lies, jasmines and barbed wire.
Introductory and concluding words by Maria Essunger, Jens Christian Brandt, and Lars M. Andersson — on then and now, on the necessity of insistence. A conversation with the audience will follow.
Readings by Mats Qviström and Julia Romanowska Sound design: Ulrik Dahlerus
The event is open to all. Pre-registration is required: lars.m.andersson@hist.uu.se
