Miriam Selén Gerson

The project “Covenant, Sacrifice, and Intimacy in Rabbinic Interpretation of Song of Songs” examines rabbinic interpretations of the Song of Songs. One starting point is that the text refers to the cult of sacrifice as an expression of intimacy and closeness between God and Israel.

Johanna Rönnlund

The project “The Performance of Complaint: A Performance Analysis of Translations of the Psalter” examines the psalms of lament in the Psalter and modern Bible translations of these texts, focusing on the performative stylistic features of the texts. The project also explores the advantages of such exegesis as a tool in Bible translation.

Petter Spjut

The project “Only a Parable: Scriptural Interpretation in Pistis Sophia” examines the interpretation and reception of New Testament motifs in the apocryphal text Pistis Sophia, whose origin is traditionally dated to the 200s or 300s.

Victoria Vasquez

The project “Jesus’s Noble Death? Ancient Biographies and Exemplary Suffering” analyzes accounts of Jesus’ death in the four New Testament Gospels and in the Gospel of Peter, against the backdrop of the motif of noble death in Greek and Roman biographies.

Ioannis Nusias

The dissertation project “Paul in an Aristotelian Context” explores whether Aristotle and the subsequent Aristotelian tradition can provide a deeper understanding of the intellectual context behind Paul’s letters. This overarching problem will be analyzed in particular in relation to the use of the Aristotelian coinage.
