The Museum of Evolution at Uppsala University has partnered with the Instituto de Geociências de Timor-Leste (IGTL), The Oceans Graduate School at The University of Western Australia, and the University of Oslo Natural History Museum to investigate polar marine ecosystems from the Age of Dinosaurs and pioneer sustainable fossil geoheritage in developing countries.
Field exploration in Timor-Leste and remote northwestern Australia during 2023 discovered the remains of ancient marine reptiles from lost southern oceans, and is now expanding into a formal Memorandum of Understanding between The Museum of Evolution and IGTL to advance joint research and museum education initiatives.
This collaboration is funded by a Vetenskaprådet project and Matariki Network of Universities fellowship awarded to Dr Benjamin Kear, Curator of Vertebrate Palaeontology and Researcher in Palaeontology at The Museum of Evolution.
