Keri Facer new Zennström Professor in Climate Change Leadership

Climate researcher Keri Facer from the University of Bristol will be Uppsala University’s third visiting Zennström Professor of Climate Change Leadership. She will continue strategic development work in this area at the University. On 27 November she will participate in a panel discussion with her two predecessors.
“Keri Facer’s research is truly interdisciplinary and our hope is that she will contribute to good discussions at the University in the area of climate research. Her two predecessors took different approaches. While Stabinsky had a clear focus on involving students, Anderson has focused much more on outreach. Facer has expressed a desire to study how researchers can work together in this vital area, which will lend another dimension to the climate professorship,” says Professor Marika Edoff, Deputy Vice-Rector and chair in the recruitment group.
Keri Facer is Professor of Educational and Social Futures at the University of Bristol, School of Education. She works on rethinking the relationship between formal educational institutions and wider society and is particularly concerned with the sorts of knowledge that may be needed to address contemporary environmental, economic, social and technological changes.
Since 2013, Keri has been Leadership Fellow for the RCUK Connected Communities Programme (www.connected-communities.org). This research programme is creating new relationships between communities and universities, drawing on arts and humanities perspectives and methods to enable new forms of knowledge production to address urgent contemporary issues.
Professor Keri Facer is looking forward to meeting new colleagues and students in Uppsala and establishing new partnerships within and beyond academia.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to work across the whole of Uppsala University to explore how universities can build partnerships with local, national and international communities, how we can develop powerful knowledge, and how we can educate students to enable the massive transitions we need to live well with climate change. I am honoured and excited to be taking on this role and I look forward to hearing from organisations and individuals who would be keen to collaborate with the university in this area,” she says.
In connection with taking up her position as visiting professor, Facer will take part in a panel discussion with her two predecessors, Doreen Stabinsky and Kevin Anderson. This will take place on 27 November at 18 pm, at Hambergsalen, Geocentrum, villavägen 16, Uppsala.
The visiting professorship runs for ten years, with a new professor being invited every year or every second year. It is funded by a donation to Uppsala University from entrepreneur Niklas Zennström.
