Open lecture: Conducting the world’s largest election

Next month, more than 800 million people will cast their votes in India’s general election – the world’s largest election. To mark the occasion, the former Election Commissioner of India Dr S. Y. Qureishi has been invited to give a lecture at Uppsala University.


The people of India will cast their votes between 7 April and 12 May. In connection with this event, former Election Commissioner of India Dr S. Y. Qureishi and Ambassador Maria Leissner, Secretary General at the Community of Democracies, will give a talk titled “Conducting Elections in a Plural Democracy”.

The lecture is organized by the Uppsala University Forum for South Asia Studies in cooperation with the Indian Embassy in Stockholm. Professor Ashok Swain of the Department of Peace and Conflict Research will lead the discussion.

Time and place: Friday 11 April at 10.00, in the Eva Netzelius Hall at Blåsenhus.
