Sandra Torres, Professor of Social Gerontology at the Department of Sociology at Uppsala University, has been made a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America.

The Gerontological Society of America is the oldest and largest interdisciplinary organisation in the United States devoted to research on ageing. Its mission is to acquire and disseminate knowledge about ageing in a broad sense. Sandra Torres was elected to the society as a ‘fellow’, which is the highest class of membership.

Professor Torres leads research on social gerontology at the Department of Sociology. Together with a colleague, she also leads the Welfare and Life Course Research Group, which studies the conditions and implications of welfare in relation to people’s life courses.
