Negative emissions

The term ‘negative emissions’ refers to the process of recovering greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and then transporting and storing them. Another English term used for this process is carbon capture and storage (CCS). Research on CCS at Uppsala University includes methods and models for predicting how carbon dioxide to be stored in deep geological formations spreads and how this can be monitored. There is also research on how to convert atmospheric carbon dioxide into various kinds of fuels. The chemical reaction can be driven directly by solar energy, for example; this area is known as solar fuels.
