TSL version 2

CANCER TREATMENT AND ELECTRONICS IRRADIATION

At a scaled-down TSL, where almost all basic physical research had disappeared, proton therapy activities could be conducted full-time. The capacity was about 200 patients per year. When the newly built Scandion clinic was ready to receive patients in 2015, the business was moved there.

In parallel with the proton therapy, proton and neutron irradiations of various materials were carried out for various application purposes, mostly commercial.

The increasingly compact electronics, which are nowadays found in almost all technical products, have become more sensitive to atmospheric radiation (mostly neutrons). At TSL's unique neutron irradiation facility, tests were carried out on various components, from microchips and power electronics to entire passenger cars.

In 2016 Uppsala University made a decision to decommission the facility. Last run wa sin June 2016.
