U-CAN welcomes the liver- and pancreatic cancer group
In April 2021 the thirteenth diagnosis area within U-CAN was formed: Liver-, bile duct- and pancreatic cancer. These forms of cancer usually have a very poor prognosis and U-CAN therefore hopes to contribute to continued research for improved survival and individualized medicine by initiating this new collection of samples and data.
The collection is based at The Akademiska Hospital to which many of the patients from the larger Uppsala/Örebro healthcare region are also referred to for surgery. Yearly, around 3500 people in Sweden are stricken by these diseases, and at Akademiska Hospital the new group estimates to include about 200 cases per year.
