Erik Hellberg
I am a PhD student at the Department of Economic History at Uppsala University (UU). My research centers on the historical development of social and economic inequality, focusing on how labor markets functioned, evolved, and influenced resource allocation across social strata. I am particularly interested in how structural change impacted workers’ prospects during the nineteenth century.
This focus is reflected in my PhD project, where I investigate how the supply and demand for skills shifted during industrialization in Sweden and the resulting impact on labor market outcomes for workers.
Additionally, I work on developing and applying machine-learning models to digitize historical sources that have long remained inaccessible to scholars.
