Organising doctoral courses
Apply for support from the KUF
The Research Training Committee (KUF) can provide support for conducting doctoral courses. To apply for support, please send your application to the email address: kuf@uadm.uu.se.
Applications are normally reviewed once a year, in connection with the operational planning process. Your application should include a justification for the need for a new course. The administrative conditions for offering the course must also be in place.
Please include the following documents in your application to the Research Training Committee:
- A concise course syllabus according to the course syllabus template (Forms and templates on the Staff Gateway)
- Preliminary course schedule
- A brief justification for the number of credits given for the course
- List of teachers
- A brief justification for why the course should be offered
- Budget
The Research Training Committee may also support seminar series, provided that:
- The department contributes partial co-financing
- The seminar series is widely advertised to ensure broad participation
If you would like to discuss proposals for new courses, please contact Sebastian Barg, Director of Studies for third-cycle courses.
Guidelines
The Guidelines for financing doctoral courses is a guide on applying for funds and reporting granted funds for a doctoral course.

Course syllabus
Each doctoral course must have an established syllabus in the course database according to a template. Publish the established syllabus together with the course in the course database.
The syllabus should include:
- The level of the course
- The number of credits awarded
- Special entry requirements
- The objectives of the course
- Teaching methods
- The pace of study
- Examination methods
Report revisions of the syllabus to the Research Training Committee, which approves a new version of the syllabus.
Adding a course to the course database
The courses offered at the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy are compiled in a course database. Once a course has been granted funding and has an established syllabus, it must be advertised in the course database. Contact the Faculty Office of Medicine and Pharmacy to obtain authorisation to add a course to the course database.
Course evaluation and course report
After every doctoral course, offer all participants a course evaluation by using Uppsala University’s central system for course evaluations and selecting “PhD courses via the research training committee (KUF)”. The results of the evaluation should be presented in a course report and fed back to the course participants. The report should also be published in the course database and presented at the beginning of the next course period.
Uppsala University’s central system for course evaluations
The course report’s purpose is to briefly summarise and evaluate the students’ views from the course evaluation and to complement these with the reflections of the course coordinators and teachers. The course report should also describe the ideas for improvement and the actions to be taken.
