Transfer of credits

If a student has passed a course or study programme at another higher education institution, they are entitled to transfer the awarded credits to a course or study programme at Uppsala university. This does not apply, however, if there is a substantial difference between these courses or study programmes. This also applies to knowledge and skills acquired from other education or in a vocational or professional capacity. Credit transfer is regulated in the Higer Education Ordinance (1993:100).

When a student submits a credit transfer application the University must assess whether credits can be awarded. The decision is based on an assessment of the content of the prior education or prior professional or vocational experience and in this differs from grading. A decision on the transfer of credits may, unlike a grade, be appealed.

Who decides on credit transfers depends on the course or study programme the student is studying and on the origin, Swedish or foreign, of the prior education.
