The academic year and semesters

The courses and programmes at the University are provided during the academic year, which lasts for 40 weeks. The academic year is divided into two semesters, the autumn semester and the spring semester.

The autumn semester begins on the Monday that occurs between 28 August and 3 September and lasts for 20 weeks. The spring semester begins on the Monday that occurs 20 weeks after the beginning of the autumn semester and lasts for 20 weeks.

In the period between the spring semester and the autumn semester, summer courses may be given. These may not be scheduled to start or end during the semesters.

For a few courses or programmes, exemptions from the regulations on the semester periods have been approved.
