General syllabuses
General syllabus for each subject
The Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100) prescribes that doctoral courses and programmes are to be organised in subjects. For each subject, there must be a general syllabus indicating the main content of the programme, specific entry requirements and any other necessary regulations.
The University’s guidelines specify that the syllabus must also state which criteria will be applied when assessing the ability to benefit from the studies, the relationship between the thesis part and the course part of the programme, the possibility to take a licentiate degree and the requirements for each degree.
The authority to adopt general syllabuses rests with the faculty boards. In certain faculties, decisions to adopt and/or amend general syllabuses are delegated to boards or committees under the faculty board.
Individual study plan for each doctoral student
In addition to the general syllabus, an individual study plan must be drawn up for each doctoral student. This plan must include the obligations of the doctoral student and the University and a timetable for the doctoral student’s study programme. The individual study plan must be reviewed regularly and amended as necessary.
