Programme syllabuses

According to Chapter 6, Section 16 of the Higher Education Ordinance, there must be a syllabus for all programmes.

According to Section 17, the syllabus is to specify the following:

• the courses included in the study programme
• specific entry requirements
• other necessary regulations.
  

The Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions (SUHF) recommends that the syllabus should also state the main structure of the programme, when the syllabus or amendments to the syllabus will take effect and any necessary transitional provisions.

The Guidelines for approving, monitoring and phasing out degree programmes, main fields of study and subsidiary fields of study contain regulations on how syllabuses at Uppsala University should be structured.

Approval of programme syllabuses

The programme syllabus is approved by the disciplinary domain board/faculty board.

When should a syllabus be approved?

According to the Guidelines on working conditions for first- and second-cycle students at Uppsala University, the syllabus must be available well in advance of the application deadline. This means that the syllabus must be approved and available online by the date on which application for the programme opens.

Register and upload the syllabus to Ladok and Selma

Once a new syllabus (or a new specialisation) has been approved, the editors of the course catalogue upload information about the name in both Swedish and English, the educational level, the scope in terms of credits and any specialisations into Ladok, and they link the programme to an organisational unit in Ladok and Selma. The faculty or department responsible is then able to upload the syllabus in Selma.
