Collection of tips om using genAI

The Unit for Academic Teaching and Learning's hub page on how to use genAI

Here you will find practical tips on how generative AI can be used in your work as a teacher and administrator. Open the section that interests you.

Before you start

  • Use Copilot while signed in with your UU account. What you type or upload is not saved and is not used to train the model
  • Do not upload personal data, student results or other sensitive information
  • You are always responsible for what you use. Review the responses before you take them any further.

The lecture ‘Introduction to genAI’ was given in August and September 2026 and is now available as a recording. It provides a foundation for the rest of the tips on this page and lasts just over 60 minutes. You enrol yourself in Studium to access the course:

Once you have developed a prompt that produces a good response, it is worth saving. Next time you will not have to start from scratch.

Where: A Word document or a OneNote notebook on your OneDrive.

Structure: Record the same details for each prompt, for example:

  • Purpose – what the prompt is meant to achieve
  • The prompt itself, word for word
  • Which tool you used, and the date
  • What worked and what you had to adjust

Reuse as a template: You can also give a saved prompt to the language model and ask for a new one that works in the same way but for a different task.

Example: ‘Here is a prompt I am happy with when I write summaries of course evaluations. Write a new prompt with the same structure and tone, but for summarising views from a programme committee discussion.’

With PowerPoint, Sunet Scribe and Copilot you can produce and quality-assure subtitles without typing them yourself.

  1. Record in PowerPoint. You can re-record individual slides if something needs adjusting, without redoing the whole lecture
  2. Export the lecture as a video (.mp4 format)
  3. Transcribe with Sunet Scribe. You can find the service via the page ‘Transkribering med Sunet Scribe’ (Transcription with Sunet Scribe) on the Staff Gateway. You will receive a subtitle file (.vtt or .srt format)
  4. Change the file extension to .txt and upload the file to Copilot. Copilot does not read .vtt and .srt files directly. Then use the following prompt:

‘Review the transcript in the attached file. Correct spelling mistakes, misheard words and technical terms. Do not change any timestamps or the line structure. First give a list of all corrections, then the entire file in exactly the same format.’

  1. Change the file extension of the corrected file back and add it to the video as subtitles

Keep in mind: If students can be heard or are named in the recording, the transcript contains personal data. Remove this before you upload the file.

An agent in Copilot is a saved set of instructions. You no longer have to type the same long prompt every time, and you get responses in the same format each time.

How to create an agent:

1. Open Copilot while signed in with your UU account

2. Choose to create a new agent

3. Paste in the Name, Description and Instructions from the agent’s subpage below. Add the web addresses listed under Knowledge. You are free to adapt the agent’s instructions to suit your needs

4. Test the agent on your own material before you use it. An agent is only ever as good as its instructions
