Nomination of Electoral College members - ‘other employees’
Guidelines for appointing other employees to the Electoral College
The Electoral College consists of eleven members and an equal number of personal deputies, who represent the group of 'other employees'. Four of the representatives in the Electoral College must come from the University Administration, two from each disciplinary domain and one from the University Library.
An open nomination procedure is used, but to be able to nominate and be eligible for nomination in the category of ‘other employees’, the person must “be employed at Uppsala University and
- must not belong to a disciplinary domain’s body of academically qualified individuals, and
- must have a permanent employment contract that comprises at least 50% of a full-time role.” (Rules of Procedure for Uppsala University, Chapter 6, Section 1 (UFV 2017/95).)
A person is eligible for nomination as a representative of the body of staff in which they were employed on the date of the University Board’s decision of 18 June 2025.
The representatives in the group should represent a broad range of roles. Efforts should be made to achieve gender balance in the group.
It is possible to nominate more than one person, and also to nominate oneself. Nominations must contain a brief explanation of why the nominee is considered a suitable member of the selection committee and information about the nominee’s employment and role.
The term of office of the Electoral Colleges members starts 15 October 2025 and runs until 14 October 2028.
The members representing ‘other employees’ are appointed by a selection committee consisting of six people appointed by the University Director following a nomination procedure.
The nomination period has ended.
Background
The Rules of Procedure for Uppsala University state that eleven members are to be appointed from among the other employees following a nomination procedure decided by the University Board (Chapter 6, Section 1, point 3). The selection committee is to consist of six members composed to be representative of the other employees in the University’s organisation, based on the number of full-time equivalent employees. The seats in the Electoral College are allocated on the basis of the group of other employees.
