Evacuation

Evacuation alarm

The Ångström laboratory has two different evacuation alarms.

  • House 10 has a talking evacuation alarm.
  • Fire alarm bells sound in houses 1 – 9.
  • House 20 (storage) has no evacuation alarm.

Evacuation alarms can, for example, sound in the event of fire and gas leaks. The houses/zones where the evacuation alarm does not sound do not need to be evacuated.

When the evacuation alarm sounds

  • If possible, bring outerwear/shoes with you.
  • Warn others and check if anyone needs help.
  • If possible, close doors, windows and gas taps.
  • Follow the evacuation plan to the nearest exit.
  • Do not use the elevator - take the stairs.
  • Go to your assembly point, don't stop right outside the front doors.

The university is not responsible for things left in the building during an evacuation.

Anyone who knows something significant about the reason why the evacuation alarm has been activated or has other relevant information should go to the fire alarm center in building 22 to notify the rescue manager there.

After an evacuation alarm

Do not re-enter the building where evacuation alarms are still sounding or the orange flashing lights at the front doors are on. When the evacuation alarm has gone off, you first need to check with the rescue leader if it is safe to return. There may be other reasons for the alarm to be switched off than the danger being over. Do not enter the building if there is any danger involved.

Evacuation when in need of assistance

If you have reduced mobility or any other disability and need assistance to get down the stairs in an emergency situation, there are so-called evacuation sites in the stairwells in buildings 9 and 10. There, you can use an emergency phone to call for help in getting out. Where the evacuation points are located is marked on evacuation plans in these houses and the road to these evacuation points is also signposted with luminous evacuation signs with a wheelchair symbol.

The evacuation sites are equipped with spoken two-way communication. When the button on the emergency phone is pressed, two things happen at the same time:

1. A signal is sent to the Securitas alarm center which sends guards to help with the evacuation. As an aid, special evacuation chairs located on floor K1 in house 9 and 10 are available to facilitate the evacuation. The guards are trained to use these evacuation chairs.

2. The call is connected to a telephone in connection with the fire alarm control panel in the affected house. During an ongoing operation by the emergency service, the rescue leader is usually in the vicinity of the fire alarm control panel. If no one answers within 30 seconds, the call is forwarded as a priority call to the Securitas Contact Center. There, an operator will communicate with the person who needs help to pass on that information to the guards who are on their way. This information can also be communicated to the emergency services if lifesaving becomes relevant. If the automatic fire and evacuation alarm is activated, emergency services are on their way and can receive important additional information.

Assembly points

Adjacent to the Ångström laboratory there are two assembly points, one adjacent to the parking lot outside the so-called Red Villas (buildings 17, 18 and 19) and one in the parking lot adjacent to the southern entrance.

Please not that, when evacuating the Red villas (buildings 17, 18 and 19), evacuees must go to the assembly point adjacent to the parking lot outside the southern entrance of the Ångström laboratory. This is because the assembly point directly adjacent to houses 17–19 risks not providing sufficient distance from the houses in the event of a fire, and can make it difficult for the emergency services to be able to access and work there. Information about this can also be found on the evacuation plans in these houses.

Evacuation plans

Evacuation plans showing escape routes and assembly points are posted in all premises in the Ångström laboratory. They also include information on what to do in case of fire.

Evacuation drills

Evacuation drills are held annually at the Ångström laboratory, usually during the beginning of the fall semester when many are new on campus. The campus management usually announces these evacuation drills in advance.
