The method of characteristics and first-order partial differential equations. Distributions and Sobolev spaces, extensions and trace theorems. Sobolev inequalities and compactness theorems. Laplace equation. Heat equation. Wave equation. Applications of Sobolev spaces to PDEs. Existence and uniqueness of weak solutions to elliptic equations.
