About the course

The general part deals with various types of processes and features formed due to mountain building (orogenesis) by forces generated by plate tectonics through geological times. Special emphasis will be put on orogenies of progressively older age, including those affecting the Fennoscandian Shield. In the methodology part, various approaches and analytical methods will be used, including strain analysis, microstructures, analogue and numerical modelling as well as interpretation of bedrock maps, structural geological data and geophysical data.
