About the course
This course investigates the ways in which literary texts and cultural theories have responded to the emergence of new technologies and media. Ranging across periods and genres, it enables a reimagination of literary history as a unique record of the transformation of human life by innovations such as mechanised time-keeping, flight, photography, cinema, mass-circulation newspapers, space travel, and the Internet. Examination of these themes is joined with theoretical analysis of the impact of technological and media innovations upon literary forms.
