About the course
In this course you deepen your knowledge of Old Norse through close study of Old Norse prose texts and poems, for example sagas of Icelanders, edda poetry and skaldic poetry. The focus is on phonetics, morphology and word formation, but you also get increased insights into ancient mythology and worldview. You will become familiar with some tools available, such as dictionaries and grammars. Old Norse is studied in comparison with language conditions in the rest of the Nordic region, especially in Sweden.
