Upon completing the program, students should be able to:

  • demonstrate solid knowledge and a good understanding of games and game design as interactive cultural forms and means of communication
  • explain and critically analyse external factors that influence the development of game design and project management
  • demonstrate knowledge of available methods in game design and project management
  • navigate current research and professional issues in game design and project management

Skills and Abilities

Upon completing the program, students should be able to:

  • independently identify, formulate, and solve problems, and complete tasks within given time frames
  • communicate clearly and accessibly in both speech and writing, with good transparency and a high level of problematization
  • identify and formulate questions, seek and gather information individually and in teams
  • apply their knowledge of game design and project management in a broader scientific and societal context
  • through the development of games create technical and aesthetic products designed to capture and maintain the interest of a target audience.

Values and Attitudes

Upon completing the program, students should be able to:

  • collaborate in interdisciplinary project groups and evaluate their own work
  • show progression in their scientific approach
  • critically evaluate scientific arguments using fundamental theory and methods in game design
  • demonstrate broad knowledge in scientific and professional areas that contextualize the role of games and game design in societal and ethical contexts.

Layout of the programme

The programme comprises three years of full-time study (180 credits), spread over 6 semesters with courses worth 30 credits per semester.

Year 1 (Semesters 1-2):

Students are introduced to game design and project management through lectures, exercises, and workshops, as well as the development of games both in groups and individually. Students will learn about and practice project management methodologies, as well as gain experience in managing group dynamics. Semesters 1-2 also include an introduction to academic studies and a scientific approach.

Year 2 (Semesters 3-4):

Studies deepen in game design with more extensive game systems and complex designs. Project management courses during this period introduce more project management methodologies, as well as producer-oriented tasks and responsibilities such as planning game productions. Group dynamics knowledge is expanded with a focus on leadership and coaching principles.

Year 3 (Semesters 5-6):

The 5th semester consists of 30 credits of elective courses. Students can also apply for an internship in game design or related fields, corresponding to 30 credits (a full semester), or study abroad. In the final (6th) semester students focus on more advanced courses, including one elective course (7.5 credits), a theory and methods course (7.5 credits), and a final independent thesis project (15 credits).

Degree

The programme studies lead to a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Game Design.
