Entry requirements

Studies comprising 120 credits in subjects with relevance for the project work; the course can be applied for continuously but is given only if supervisors are available and the applicant must enclose a certificate from the director of studies showing that supervisor and project description have been approved.

Learning outcomes

The project work should provide advanced knowledge on how one searches scientific facts and also give experience of how one plans, carries out and presents a scientific work.

On completion of the course the student should, with some support, be able to:

• search and summarise scientific literature

• plan and carry out a scientific experiment

• analyse scientific facts

• present scientific results in written and oral form

Content

The student should under the guidance of a researcher during 10 weeks participate in a specified project. By studying literature assigned by the supervisor, the student will obtain an understanding of the theoretical background of the project.

Instruction

Laboratory work and self-study under supervision. Participation in seminars relevant to the subject of the project assigned by the supervisor. The teaching can be given completely or partly in English.

Assessment

For a Pass grade in the course, it is required that the student through his work has satisfied the aims of the course. This implies inter alia that the project work should be presented in seminars within the group the work has where been carried out. Furthermore, a written report in the form of a scientific article which should be accepted is required of examiner. The grade Passed or failed is put of examiner in consultation with the supervisor.
