Learning outcomes

During the course, the student should develop advanced knowledge in general and specific nursing and from knowledge in scientific methodology independently carry out a degree project. On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

  • show advanced knowledge in the field of knowledge of the specialisation
  • show advanced knowledge of application of a scientific working method

Skills and abilities

  • plan and formulate search questions, carry out search strategies based on good concept analysis in the subject area and thereafter choose appropriate information resources
  • critically review, analyse and evaluate national and international research results critically and present and discuss scientific studies in the subject area
  • plan and carry out an individual assignment in the field of knowledge of the specialisation
  • report the degree project in a scientific manner, orally and in writing
  • reflect on legal and ethical limitations in usage of various types of research data
  • critically review own and others' degree projects

Judgement and approach

  • reflect on and evaluate the importance of scientific work on nursing within the specialisation
  • evaluate and discuss own research results in relation to other relevant nursing research in the field

  • Preparation of project plan
  • Implementation and writing of own degree project
  • Acting as a respondent and opponent

Instruction

Individual degree project supported through web-based teaching, supervision individually and in seminars, and literature studies.

The degree project is discussed at a special seminar with reviewers and in the presence of examiner

Assessment

Examination will be in the form of oral and written presentations of project plan and degree project and also participation in compulsory parts of the course.

The student should with passed result:

  • prepare a project plan for degree project
  • carry out an independent degree project
  • as author of the thesis defend his or her degree project and present this as a poster or oral presentation
  • as an opponent review another student's degree project critically

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.

Other directives

A complete, unbound and single sided copy of the approved thesis must be submitted to the course administrator for archiving. You should also register your essay in the Digital Scientific Archive (DIVA), either abstract/summary or the full essay. These two things must be done before registration of the course can be done.
