General provisions
The course is a freestanding course. It is also included as an elective module on Arabic C. The course can be included in the sub area Arabic in a Bachelor's degree.
Entry requirements
Arabic A, 30 credits, and Arabic B, 30 credits, or at least 60 credits in the Bachelor's Programme in Oriental Studies with Arabic specialisation.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should to deserve the grade Pass at least be able to:
* without aids translate given elementary to intermediate level classical Arabic texts;
* with linguistic terminology analyse given elementary to intermediate level classical Arabic texts;
* in connection with the study of texts account for the syntax and textual linguistics of classical Arabic;
* place and discuss a selection of classical Arabic texts in a historical context
Content
The course aims towards providing in reading and analysing classical Arabic prose and shorter texts from the Quran. Some examples of classical Arabic poetry is also included.
Instruction
The teaching consists of seminars and examination parts. The student's own learning activities are crucial to the completion of the course.
Assessment
The examination of the course is conducted through:
a) PM and a textual analysis of ca. 10 pages.
b) An oral presentation of text in conjunction with tuition.
c) Written examination.
For Pass, at least Pass is required in all moments. For Pass with distinction, Pass with distinction is required in all moments of the course.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
