Replaces earlier course 3NR433 Elective Course in Neuroscience

Entry requirements

120 credits in medicine, biomedicine, pharmacy, science or engineering. A certificate from the director of studies, stating that a supervisor and a study plan are approved, is also required.

Learning outcomes

The project should give advanced knowledge of the subject, knowledge of how to critically analyse and compare scientific facts as well as practical knowledge in how to generate hypotheses, design projects, process data in a research-ethical way as well as present and defend scientific conclusions.

After the course the student is expected to be able to:

- critically evaluate and discuss scientific literature

- based on scientific literature, formulate issues, design and carry out a scientific work in the subject area of neuroscience

- analyse, evaluate and discuss the importance of received scientific results

- present and discuss scientific data and conclusions in good written and oral form

- follow research-ethical norms and rules.

Content

The course is designed as a project that includes: practical work in close connection to ongoing research in neuroscience; compilation and critical analysis of results; search of scientific literature; oral and written presentation of the project.

Instruction

The studies take place under individual supervision and include literature studies, seminar exercises and practical work.

Assessment

The project shall be presented to subject experts at a seminar. It shall also be summarised in a report organised as a scientific article, which is the basis for the examination.

If special circumstances apply, the examiner can make exceptions from the stated exam method and decide that a student is assessed in a different way. Special reason can e.g. be a notice of special educational support from the coordinator of the university.

Other directives

If handling of laboratory animals, education in Laboratory Animal Science (LAS) is required according to Swedish legislation.
