General provisions

Master programme course- track Master in Sustainable Management

Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree equivalent to a Swedish degree of at least 180 credits with at least 90 credits in business studies. Proficiency in English. This is normally attested by means of an internationally recognised test such as TOEFL or IELTS.

Learning outcomes

Having completed the course, students are expected to be able to:

* Understand the role of governance, organisation and standards in the field of sustainability

* Present and discuss examples that illustrate how sustainability is governed within different organisational settings.

* Analyse the role of different types of organisations and standards in relation to the governance of sustainability

* Critically examine and discuss complex problems and dilemmas related to the governance of sustainability

Content

The course is based on scholarly work from different disciplines and practical examples that illustrate how problems, activities and processes connected to sustainability might be governed through organisation and standards. Governance is here used in a wide sense and might include: environmental standards and certificates, eco-system assessments, share-holder pressure, agenda-setting, public procurement, and international environmental regulations. The course thus aims at giving students a in broad understanding of how sustainability is governed with a particular focus on its organisational dimensions.

Instruction

The course will include lectures and seminars. The students will work both individually and in teams and are expected to be very active. The language of instruction is English

Assessment

Your performance in the course will be evaluated on the basis on an individual assignments and a group project. Class participation is taken into account. (The course grades are Pass with distinction (VG), Pass (G) or Fail (U))

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.

Uppsala University does not accept cheating or plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, which may issue a formal warning to the student or suspend the student from studies for a certain period.
