Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. The main field of study must be within engineering, science or social science. Also required is Wind Power Project Development and Management, 15 credits, and Wind Resource Assessment and Energy Estimation, 10 credits.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • account for and draw conclusions of fundamental theory in spatial planning for wind energy development
  • analyse and apply rules, regulations and permission practice related to wind energy development
  • analyse environmental impacts of wind energy utilisation, opposing interests and acceptance of wind power projects
  • suggest and analyse financial incentives related to wind power projects
  • evaluate social relevance and ethical consideration in wind power development
  • design and execute a consultation meeting based on current research findings and industry experience for a wind farm

Content

The course covers theory and application of spatial planning for wind energy development and wind power projects. Local, regional and national regulations and permits are studied. The importance of good communication and acceptance among all stakeholders are practice in role play. Financial incentives and environmental considerations are evaluated for their potential effects in planning and on-schedule project execution. A role play of a consultation meeting for a proposed wind farm will be enacted as well as evaluation of social relevance and etical considerations at wind power development.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, role play, group and field work.

Assessment

Written hand-in assignments, project report, seminars, role play and oral presentation, 3 credits. Oral examination, 2 credits.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
