Learning outcomes
The purpose of the course is to train students in getting an overview, summarize and analyse the literature about a research topic or question within the field of business studies.
On successful completion of the course, participants are expected to be able to:
- carry out an extensive literature review in relation to a particular question or theme within business studies,
- provide a written synthesis and critical discussion of a substantial amount of academic literature on a given topic in the area of business studies, and draw meaningful conclusions,
- identify potential questions for future research, and, where appropriate, identify implications for practice.
Content
The student will select a question or topic in consultation with their supervisor/tutor, search for relevant academic literature, read and analyse the material and present the result in the form of a written text.
Instruction
Students will work independently, supported by individual or small group meetings with their supervisor/tutor. Depending on the number of participants, the course may also include group activities (such as presentations and discussion of their work with other participants).
The course is taught in English.
Assessment
The student will get one single grade for the course, equivalent to 15 credits.
The examination is primarily based on a written report, prepared individually. Additional individual and group assignments (such as presentations) are included depending on the number of course participants. The grade for the entire course is based on a combined assessment of all parts of the examination.
Grading criteria are presented in the study guide for the course in the specific academic year and term. The following grades will be used: pass with distinction (VG), pass (G), and fail (U). Examinations submitted late will not be assessed except under special circumstances. Any remaining supplemental work must be completed and submitted by the deadline specified in the study guide. Otherwise the entire course (including all parts of the examination) must be retaken during subsequent course sections.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
Uppsala University does not accept cheating or plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, which may issue a formal warning to the student or suspend the student from studies for a certain period.
NOTE: Only completed courses can count toward a degree.
