Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university

Learning outcomes

Following successful completion of the course students will be able to:

- Discuss and describe core concepts and questions within the field of feminist cultural studies.

- Discuss and describe different theories and methodologies within the field of feminist cultural studies.

- Demonstrate orally and in writing how these methodological and theoretical approaches can be applied to different empirical contexts.

- Independently write a short academic text on a subject relevant to the field of feminist cultural studies.

- Actively participate in seminar discussions and present written and oral arguments in the independent and critical manner expected at the advanced level.

Content

​Through the course, students are given an advanced introduction to feminist cultural studies as a research field. The course is focused on how gender and other dimensions of power are implicated in the production and reception of cultural texts and how representation affects the construction and performance of gender. Through the course students address central theoretical and thematic approaches in the field of feminist cultural studies and discuss them in relation to specific examples from (for example) mass media, film, television, art, literature or computer games.

Instruction

The course is delivered through a series of mandatory lectures and/or seminars.

Assessment

All seminars are part of the examination and include written and oral assignments. In addition students are expected to complete a written paper based on the theme of the course. All essays will undergo a plagiarism check.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
