Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Internship in Learning for Sustainable Development and Global Health, 15 credits. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students are expected to be able to:

• use formerly acquired knowledge to scientifically analyse the practice of learning for sustainable development within a global health context.
• develop a theoretical framework that can guide methodological and analytical choice for the research project.
• apply scientific rigour, which includes practical knowledge in the use of different research methods to establish relevant empirical material in relation to specific research questions.
• critically analyse and evaluate research results and write a scientific report
• communicate research results scientifically and within popular science, i.e., writing in a well-structured, analytical and comprehensible form, and orally presenting the results..

Content

Through the independent thesis work, the student will increase their ability to formulate, delimit and investigate practices of implementation science, transformational learning and sustainability. In addition, the student will be given training in scientific literature searching and in communicating scientific results both orally and in writing.

Instruction

The central part of the course consists of own independent work. The teacher held activities include guidance/supervision, lectures, seminars and fieldwork. ​During the course, students will:

• Conduct a literature search within the scientific area in question.
• Give an oral presentation of research questions and results, including analysis, with an audience familiar with the scientific area at a seminar.
• Act as an opponent for another student's thesis within the Master's thesis course.
• Write a thesis that is electronically published at Uppsala University.

Assessment

To pass the course, the student needs to present a written thesis of good quality, conduct an acceptable seminar presentation and carry out an opposition of another thesis. If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University´s disability coordinator. All examinations are in English.
