Entry requirements
120 credits including a basic course in cell biology or biochemistry of at least 10 credits.
Learning outcomes
A. Knowledge and understanding
- formulate a question and, based on this, plan and carry out a larger scientific experimental study within the subject of medical cell biology,
- integrate and synthesize biological causal contexts in relation to the question,
- demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the scientific research front related to the experimental project.
B. Skills and abilities
- continuously discuss and evaluate the experimental project in a scientific context,
- demostrate an increased degree of independence in the experimental work,
- present the results obtained and their possible interpretations and conclusions in a larger scientific report.
C. Evaluation skills and attitudes
- demonstrate a critical and reflective scientific approach,
- critically analyze, present and discuss scientific data and scientific literature in a structured way, orally and in writing.
Content
The student will do an experimental in-depth study in a current cell biology subject under individual supervision. The theoretical part includes course literature chosen in consultation with the supervisor. The experimental part is performed under the guidance of the supervisor.
Instruction
The taught elements are designed specifically for each student by the supervisor assigned by the department. The experimental part of the course takes place within the framework of the ongoing research at the department.
The studies are conducted primarily as full-time studies.
Assessment
The experimental work is summarized in an essay written as a scientific report. The supervisor and examiner are responsible for the assessment.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
