Entry requirements

120 credits in science/engineering. Participation in Materials and Manufacturing Processes I. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • acount for the principles of different methods for production of materials from solid phase, liquid phase, gas phase and solution,
  • critically analyse and value methods to produce various types of porous materials,
  • critically analyse and value methods to produce nanostructured materials,
  • evaluate the strengths of different methods and their limitations,
  • propose technical applications of material produced with different methods.

Content

Chemical synthesis of inorganic and hybrid materials: solid phase, material production from solutions, melt systems and gas phase. General principles and prerequisites are discussed for each method with concrete examples of technically important materials. Especially, inorganic polymers, porous materials and nanostructured materials are treated.

Instruction

Lectures, laboratory work, seminars and guest lectures.

Assessment

Written examination at the end of the course (2 credits) as well as active participation in seminars (1 credit) and laboratory exercises (2 credits).
