Entry requirements

45 credits in Industrial Engineering and Management or Engineering programmes. Project Management and Leadership or Projects and Leadership.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • identify different organisation types and structures, and describe how these influence change management,
  • identify and analyse needs for change in companies and other organisations, based on different stakeholder aspects,
  • analyse driving forces and impediments for change,
  • describe and apply different methods for planning, control and follow up of change,
  • identify current research issues in change management by means of literature review,
  • describe and critically review change models.

Content

Theoretical basis and practical application of how change can be carried out in a planned and targeted way, from need to implementation. Organisation types, structures and organisational systems. Identification of important components of organisations for the production of products and services. Change models and critical review of these. Models for planning, control and follow up of change and their relation to quality management. Analysis of driving forces and impediments for change and the role of the leadership in change management. Literature review.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars and supervision of group assignment.

Assessment

Written assignments (3 credits), oral presentations (1 credit) and written examination (1 credit).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding targeted pedagogical support from the university's disability coordinator.

Other directives

The course cannot be included in a degree together with 1TG268 Leadership for change.
