Learning outcomes

After completion of the course students are expected to be able to:

• Explain and reflect on theoretical perspectives on language, culture and identity
• Describe central theories about multilingualism and language development at the individual, school and community level
• Explain the significance of language policy in educational contexts

Content

• Theories and concepts relating to language, culture and identity
• Central research on bi- and multilingualism
• Language policy in multilingual educational contexts
• Development of literacies in multilingual classrooms

Instruction

The instruction consists of lectures, seminars and workshops.

All lectures, seminars and workshops are compulsory and require active participation.

The teaching and examination language is English.

Assessment

The course is examined in writing and orally, for example through written assignments and oral presentations.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
