General provisions

The course can be given in the Master's Programme in Language Technology and as a freestanding course.

Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognized university.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student should at least be able to:

  1. define the concept of digital humanities (as an academic field) and critically discuss examples of research in this field;
  2. explain the research issues and methods characterizing subfields in digital philology (as the intersection between philological research and digital humanities), such as stylometrics, synchronic linguistics, information extraction in humanities research, analysis of fiction, and digital palaeography;
  3. analyse and critically review scientific publications in the field of digital philology;
  4. define and carry out studies in various subfields of digital philology.

Instruction

The teaching consists of lectures and laboratory sessions under supervision.

Assessment

Reports on assignments. The teacher can, as part of the examination require compulsory attendance and active participation in teaching modulees. Details about the examination are provided at the start of the course.
