The course is an independent course.

The course can be counted to the minor field Persian in a Bachelor's degree.

Entry requirements

Persian 2 or Persian A and B

Learning outcomes

The course intends to provide advanced knowledge of spoken and written modern Persian and good knowledge about daily life in Iran or Tajikistan.

On completion of the course, to earn the grade Pass the student should at least be able to:

  • read and translate Persian fiction and non-fiction;
  • translate and account for the contents of news articles in Persian newspapers;
  • summarise and comment on televised newscasts and socially oriented programs on Persian television;
  • hold a conversation about contemporary social situations with Persian native language speakers;
  • write letters and reports in Persian;
  • give a detailed account of the geography, culture and way of life in Iran or Tajikistan.

Content

Studies during one semester at a language school in Iran or Tajikistan which has been approved by the Department for this purpose.

Instruction

Instruction consists of lectures, workshops and assessment.

The student's own learning activities are crucial for completion of the course.

Assessment

Examination is conducted through a written examination.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.

Other directives

The course should preferably be taken at language school in Iran or Tajikistan which has been approved by the Department for this purpose.
