Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree with Turkic languages as the main field of study, including an independent project worth at least 15 credits.
Learning outcomes
To earn the grade Pass, on completion of the course students should at least be able to:
- independently formulate relevant research questions and problems and demonstrate the ability to engage in theoretical and methodological reflection;
- independently carry out a study in Turkic linguistics or literary studies;
- collect, arrange and analyse empirical material;
- search, critically assess, bibliographically compile and correctly refer to primary and secondary literature;
- present the completed study in writing in proper academic language;
- defend their own work and publicly and constructively discuss the work of others.
Content
The student carries out an independent project in the form of an empirical or purely theoretical study based on a question of linguistics or literary studies.
Instruction
Instruction is given in the form of seminars and individual supervision. Supervision is given during the regular duration of the course. The degree project is carried out under the guidance of a supervisor who delivers detailed instructions.
Assessment
Examination takes place in the form of an examination seminar and defence of the student's own thesis and critical review of another student's thesis. If no other thesis is available, the critical review can be replaced by a written assignment in the form of a critical summary of a research article. The thesis may be written in English or Swedish. The examination seminar may be held in English or Swedish. The grade is based on both the quality of the degree project and on the level of independence during the work. Furthermore, consideration is taken of the public discussion and defence.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. Special circumstances can include notification of special educational support from the university disability coordinator.
