Domestic Violence and Abuse – Characteristic Patterns of Exposure from a Life-Course and Population Perspective

DOCTORAL PROJECT Being subjected to violence by someone with whom one has strong social and emotional ties can be traumatic and have negative effects on health. In addition to the immediate injuries caused by the violence, it also involves violations of personal integrity and a breach of trust and confidence in close relationships. Taken together, such violence can have a profound impact on those who are subjected to it. This PhD project examined exposure to domestic violence and abuse.

The aim of the project was to study exposure to sexual, physical, and psychological violence in close relationships in a representative sample of 10,000 women and 10,000 men aged 18–74 who were registered as residents in Sweden.

Project period: 15 January 2015 – 31 March 2023
