Research group Gender-based violence and health
The research group Gender-based violence and health conducts research in the field of men’s violence against women and intimate partner violence, from perspectives relating to health and the social sciences.
The NCK research group, led by professor Carolina Överlien, consists of researchers with a doctoral degree and doctoral candidates, working at NCK. The group regularly hosts meetings and seminars. We also frequently receive visits by researchers from other universities and host visiting researchers from around the world.
Low threshold support for victims
To be able to provide the best possible care and support to those affected by violence, many of our research projects are conducted in close collaboration with NCK’s specialist clinic at Uppsala University Hospital for women who have been subjected to violence, and NCK’s four national helplines.
Research regarding the helplines is gathered within a subgroup constituting a platform for long-term research into helpline data. This subgroup is led by Dr. Maja Bodin.
Violence, health and life outcome
The largest research project at NCK in the period 2025–2028 is the population survey “Violence, health and life outcome”, headed by Senior Researcher Marcus Lindskog. The survey examines the scope of exposure to violence among the Swedish population and its effects on health and living conditions, with a view to strengthen the foundations of knowledge-based social interventions.
Our research projects also focus on such issues as technology-facilitated violence and abuse, post-separation abuse and sexual harassment.
Research analysis
Apart from conducting research of our own, we gather and analyse research and evidence-based knowledge within the field of men’s violence against women and intimate partner violence, indicating where there is a need for further research and development of methods. We gather, process and spread knowledge produced by researchers and professionals from the field.
